In the Bible, written in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, Jesus returned to Jerusalem on Tuesday. He spent the day teaching people through parables (stories) and answering all kinds of questions from religious leaders who questioned His authority. Jesus was able to answer every question they asked, leaving the religious leaders confused, scared, and even threatened by His authority and knowledge of the Scriptures.

Jesus told everyone the two most important commandments are to Love God with all your

heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love your neighbor like you love yourself. While that may seem like two pretty easy commandments to keep, we don’t always do a good job with either

of them. If Jesus is the greatest gift we have ever been given, and if we are supposed to love our neighbors like we love ourselves, shouldn’t we be sharing the good news of Jesus with everyone we meet?

FOR OLDER CHILDREN AND STUDENTS you may want to read and discuss a few of the parables

and lessons Jesus taught. Here are a few scriptures you can use as you share with your family.

•The Parable of the Vineyard (Matthew 21:33-46)

• The Parable of the Wedding Banquet (Matthew. 22:1-14)

• The Teaching on Paying Taxes (Matthew 22:15-22)

• The Parable of Ten Bridesmaids (Matt. 25:1-12)

• The Parable of Three Slaves (Matthew 25:13-28)

ASK

• Why do you think the religious leaders questioned Jesus so much?

• Do you think Jesus was ever surprised by how they felt about Him?

• What do you think Jesus meant by “love our neighbors”? Was He talking about just the people that live next door to us?

• Do you think we do a good job of loving our neighbors?

• Do you think we love God with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strengths? What would it look like if we did?

PRAY

Dear Jesus, we want to love You with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength. We want to love our neighbors, all of them, and help them learn more about You. Father, show us the people

that you want us to help. Show us the families who need to hear your good news. And create a way for us to have the time to tell them about You. Father, thank you those who have given so much of themselves to serve You and to serve others so faithfully. Let their stories be guides

for all of us on how we should live. Amen.
