Can you imagine what it feels like to lose someone very close to you? If ou went to their funeral, you would probably want to keep to yourself. You probably wouldn’t talk much and smiling would be far from your mind.
That must be how Mary and Martha felt on their way to finish preparing Jesus’ body at the tomb. The Bible tells us that when Mary and Marth arrived at the tomb, The stone that had been used to seal the tomb had been rolled away. And as Mary and Martha entered the tomb, the tomb was EMPTY! And then, and angel appeared to them in the tomb and the angel told them that Jesus wasn’t there – He was alive! He had risen, just like He said he would!
Jesus was alive!
This meant that everything He said to His disciples was true! Jesus had taken all of our ugliness and sin on Himself when He died on the cross, and then He conquered death itself by rising from the grave. He died but became alive again showing that He is God and He has power even over death! NO ONE has ever had that kind of power and NO ONE ever will.
Because of His resurrection, death is not the end. We can have hope for new life and live with Jesus forever! We don’t have to be slaves to sin. Because of His resurrection, everyone who puts their trust in Jesus has life, eternal life.
John 3:16 says it perfectly. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
